Utilization of targeted traffic in corporate websites



Attracting targeted traffic for a corporate website is not such an easy task especially if you are not applying a well organized digital marketing strategy. The application of such a strategy should only be done by an experienced digital marketer and could have thriving results for the website owner.

Let’s define first of all “targeted web traffic”:

“Targeted web traffic consists of internet users which share common characteristics, interests, needs and wants, for which digital marketing efforts could be applied on in order to achieve maximum benefit for a website (or an app)”

As you can easily understand from the above definition, targeted web traffic could offer major advantages to corporate websites. It would be a huge advantage for a company to be able to identify the digital target market of its interest and address all their digital marketing efforts towards them achieving the best possible promotional results (both traffic boosting and financially).
A corporate website which is spending any budgets on online promotions and is not applying any efforts to identify its targeted web traffic is definitely not achieving the maximum targeted exposure for its website. This means that the targeted web users could not be reached and the website could not effectively benefit enough from the promotional efforts.

Let’s use a simple example to elaborate the problem of failing to identify the targeted web traffic for a website:


One online gaming platform is promoting its website through online ads. To accomplish this it is placing banner ads directly on any general content website which agrees to offer website space for advertising purposes. The gaming platform owners have available and use a monthly advertising budget which is paid to the publishers through the CPC method. Due to the highly trafficked general content websites the gaming platform is receiving considerable amounts of visitors. A problem conceived and recognized after a couple of months of applying this promotional tactic is that in spite the very good quantity of traffic received through the online advertising campaigns only a small percentage of visitors register as new gamers on the platform.

Could this be a problem of untargeted web promotional efforts? Obviously yes!


If the promotion of any web product or service is not devotedly focused on the web users who actually belong in the “targeted web traffic” group then the return on investment (ROI) for the website owners (in our case the gaming platform owners) will not be sufficiently effective in order to keep the efforts going. Therefore, a well planned digital marketing strateg y should be developed in order to accomplish the desired success with a very good ROI which will allow the website owners into keep going and effectively surviving in this highly competitive market.

Something that needs to be said for all those who we are involved in the evolution efforts of the newborn digital marketing discipline is that we need to devote ourselves in constructing effective market segmentation techniques that will allow the successful identification of target visitors for specific websites.
Effective digital market segmentation techniques are essential tools for any digital marketer who wants to offer effectively his/her services to corporate websites. I confidently predict that in the near future there will be considerable research in this field as it has a lot to offer for the online business.
